Fear came first
Before there was a brand, there was a notebook. Sketches, logos, fabric samples. And underneath all of it, fear.
I want to be honest with you, because our sixth drop is built on that honesty.
I am Jorge. I started Unidentity alone. I still run most of it alone. And when I began, I was scared in three very specific ways.
- The first fear was simple. This was my first business. I trained as a product designer, not in fashion, not in finance. I did not have the background people assume you need to do this. I was teaching myself supply chains, margins, certifications, and cash flow at the same time as I was trying to design something worth wearing. Most days I felt like I was guessing. Some days I still do.
- The second fear was being alone. I knew problems would come. A supplier that falls through. An order that arrives wrong. A month where almost nothing sells. What scared me was not the problems themselves. It was not knowing if I would be able to fix all of them by myself, with nobody to hand the weight to at the end of the day.
- The third fear was the big one. Failure. Making a product nobody wanted. Being rejected by the exact people I was building this for. Spending money I could not afford to lose and having nothing to show for it.
That is the truth of where Unidentity started. Not with confidence. With fear.
The safe version
I could have stayed where it was comfortable. I moved to Dubai in 2018 and built a life here. Back home in Spain I had graffiti, photography, music. Ways to express myself that never asked me to risk anything. The safe version of this story is the one where Unidentity stays a notebook. An idea I talk about at dinner but never actually put my name and my money behind.
I did not want that version.
So I spent two years on it instead. Two years hunting down organic cotton, ethical manufacturers, and packaging that did not cost the planet more than it needed to. I refused to cut corners, even when cutting corners would have been cheaper, faster, and far less stressful. I wanted the product to mean something before I asked a single person to pay for it.
The organic cotton was not a marketing decision. It was the line I would not cross. If I was going to add more clothing to a world already drowning in it, it had to respect the planet it came from. GOTS and OEKO-TEX certified. A mangrove tree planted in Kenya for every piece sold. Those are not features on a page to me. They are the reason I could look at the brand and feel like it deserved to exist.
In 2025, at 33, I launched. Not as a brand. As a decision. The decision to move while I was still afraid.
What fear actually taught me
Here is the thing nobody tells you. Fear does not leave when you dare. It comes with you. It sits in the passenger seat for every launch, every order, every quiet week.
The difference between the people who build something and the people who only talk about it is not the absence of fear. It is the choice to move anyway.
That is the entire idea behind Unidentity. Knock down societal norms. Refuse the boxes people try to put you in. Not because it is easy, but because staying inside them is its own kind of failure. The version of you that plays it safe forever is not safe. It is just unlived.
Everything I have built since is proof to myself that the fear was survivable. The pop-ups. The stockists. The people I have never met wearing something I designed alone in a notebook. None of it removed the fear. It just showed me the fear was never a reason to stop.
The drop
Which brings me to what goes live on July 15.
ESS006 is called Dare. It is an oversized tee in black and white. 100% organic cotton, heavyweight, made the way everything we make is made. One mangrove tree planted for every purchase.
On the back is a word search. Most people will glance at a grid of letters and move on. But there is a message hidden in there for anyone willing to actually look for it.
DARE TO BE DIFFERENT.
That was intentional. The message is hidden because most people never go looking for the courage. They see the noise, they see the crowd, and they walk past. The dare was always there. You just have to be willing to find it.
There are seven more words woven into that grid. Unidentity. Love. Planet. Streetwear. Organic. Foundation. Essence. The whole DNA of the brand, printed into the fabric. Not as decoration. As a reminder of everything it took to get here.
Why I am telling you this
I am not sharing my fears because they are behind me. I am sharing them because I do not think fear is something to hide. I think it is the most honest place to start anything real.
If you have ever wanted to do something that breaks from what people expect of you. A career nobody understands. A move away from what is comfortable. A version of yourself that makes the people around you nervous. Then you already know this feeling.
Fear first. The dare second.
